Amazing Austrian food. Great cocktails and relaxed ambience. They have a lovely terrace. Oysters are amazing.
All of the food we ordered looked delicious and was presented beautifully but the taste didn't live up to my expectations. Nothing was necessarily bad but nothing was quite amazing either. I loved my spicy tequila cocktail with basil so I would definitely go sit at the bar for a drink but I don't think I'll be dining there again. The environment and decor were great and it was a lively environment! The service was a little slow but it's still new so it might get better with time.
I enjoy this restaurant so much, delicious Austrian food (completely authentic Schnitzel) and the menu even satisfied my vegan girlfriend, and let me tell you, it take a lot to satisfy her. A wonderful atmosphere, never crowded and never rushed.
Food exceeded expectations, staff was great and will take initiative to make things right. Would definitely dine here again.
Hidden Gem, I believe this place only opened a few weeks ago, great food and not crowded.
Cocktails were above par. Food lived up to my expectations of Austria. Pork schnitzel and steak were great. Desserts were okay. Come early. Gets busy.
Food was really good, interesting spins on Austrian classics. Interesting cocktails and decent wine list.
The food we had here was outstanding and the prices very fair. The service was just slightly below 5 stars though.
Great atmosphere and staff, yummy food and drinks. Perfect spot for a cold winter day.
Interesting menu. Decent food. Cool atmosphere.
The food at this place is nice. The Schnitzel is very tasty. The deserts (only two available) were both delicious. The cocktails are ok but nothing special. I am only giving three stars because the staff, while very friendly, was also super slow and not attentive.
Great food and the service is five star
We got here early, so we were literally waited on hand and foot by the attentive wait staff. Food was excellent and one of the better spatzles I've eaten, outside of Vienna. All the food was fantastic (we ordered quite a bit from each menu) and all in all pretty affordable. I would have given this five stars but I hate when you get to a restaurant and they don't give you the happy hour menu and wait for you to ask for it, just a small annoyance, but I will definitely go back here. Nice ambiance too and very tasty cocktails.
We sat for 45 minutes, the waitress was rude and unfriendly, she "lost" our order so another waiter had to take the order again. After 45min we ordered twice and they did not even brought the wine. I brought there some guest and I had to apologise as I picked the place. Worst experience ever....... Btw the place was also half empty and there was a fixed menu......
Unbelievably good food and service.
It was a great experience. The food was great, the atmosphere is very pleasant and the staff very friendly. They also have a nice bar to have a drink and eat something. Great place and we definitely will visit again.
Our experience at Freud was exceptional! We had a going away party for a friend from overseas here on 11/4. We all had heard about the fantastic burgers and so everyone in our party of 8 ordered them. To our dismay they only had 3 left for the night. Their response to our disappointment was more than what was needed and they really went above and beyond to accommodate us as best they could. The steak made a great substitute for the burger, but please still order fries to dip into the amazing steak juices. Our waiter was fantastic and everything from drinks to appetizers to our entrees came out on time and to perfection. Great for a smaller group and would make a cute date spot as well! The music was modern and fun, and alternated well between fun and ambient. Kudos!
nice quiet good ambience
Incredible cocktails. Steven and Rueben are incredible. Great service, great craftsmanship behind the bar and lots of friendliness.
Excellent service, food, vibe, ad decor!
What a great addition to the NYC dining scene!
Delicious Austrian inspired menu in wood panelled vintage looking space. Casual and fun. Schnitzel and spatzle yum!
Bar Freud has unique drinks and experimental concepts! The cocktail menu is divided up into champagne-based, vodka-, gin-, and whiskey-based so choose based on your preferred spirit.
Nice atmosphere and delicious food. Highly recommend!
Phenomenal he man food just south of Washington square park. Try the burger which eater called one of the best burgers in NYC and i agree. Also loved the paprika chicken which was so unbelievably flavorful. Service is solid and the wine list is great. The sparkling rosè was particularly outstanding.
Freud is the sister restaurant of Edi & the Wolf in the EV. The menu are similar as both offer Austrian cuisine. While I found Edi to be full of you hipster EV kids Freud is the more mature reserved and quite. It felt a little stuffier, maybe a bit more diner-esque. Service was excellent. Our server friendly. The food was good. It was certainly an enjoyable meal although the Apfelstrudel could have used a bit more Crème Anglaise sauce! Given the choice though I think I like the younger sister in the EV. I just thought it felt more fun but that is subjective.
The salmon was very tender but there was a sweet sauce that compromised the taste. Several in our party ordered burgers. They were not pleased with their meals.
Pretty tasty Austrian dishes but you should never leave an Austrian restaurant feeling quite as hungry as we were when we visited. The mains feel very meager. Liked the skirt steak but not sure I would visit again.
The happy hour oysters are some of the best in the City. Beer and cocktail selection is also really good.
Awesome food in a vintage ambience served by friendly staff. Cool bartendering, great outdoor seating agreements, for al fresco dining; open from breakfast till late. The burgers are simply amazing, but the whole menu is well worth trying. If you are looking for great quality and unpretentious sophistication, Freud is the place for you!
Awesome food and staff. Wish they opened eariler than 5 during the week.
Awesome Austrian food with a fancy twist. Very nice cocktail selection, and a nice selection of Austrian wines and imported beers. Service was very friendly but slow; not bad, just more European speed.
Recently, it seems like people are just giving 5 stars to places that are new/on eaters heat map. GOOD: the pork neck and Libido cocktail were worth returning for. Portions were the perfect size to share. OK: beets, burger, crudo, cauliflower spätzle. An Open Table revie said the knife work/aesthetic of the dishes was excellent, but the taste just didn't measure up - couldn't agree more. SERVICE: Great to start, but as soon as it became busy, we could hardly catch our waitress. OVERALL: Happy I went, but don't think I would recommend to friends or return.
Very nice food and bar. O good place to hang out
This place has a great low key vibe, awesome staff, and very well executed food and drinks. Great place to come for a quiet dinner.
Delicious food and great cocktails
The food is delicious, the staff is friendly, and the ambiance delightful. Try one of their Freud-inspired cocktails, they're tasty and great for psychology geeks!
Simply delicious, we had the fish and the burger we will definitely visit this place often.
We had the pleasure of dining here for Valentine's Day and both enjoyed the excellent skirt steak. Incredibly flavorful and tender. The Slip, their Zubrowka based cocktail, was fantastic.Friendly service and we intend to return.
Went for brunch on a Sunday at 11am. The place was deserted and we were the only patrons there for most of the time. Service was good. Food was priced high for the fare served.
Nothing spectacular about this place, and it's a little pricey - $31 with tip for 4 cappuccinos and 2 croissants - but no worse than Starbucks. There is table service and the staff was very friendly. I was there for a business meeting and that went quite well, so I will likely go here again.Enjoy!
The mixologist at Bar Freud was amazing. Just needed to say what flavors, fruits, or qualities interested you and he created cocktail masterpiece after masterpiece. Reasonably priced too.
Food is great, service also (especially Spencer)
The food was great! That's the Spätzle and Wiener schnitzte? I think? The drinks were glorious! The staff was also amazing. The owner/manager is Italian, but her german is spot on! She was very friendly and served us drinks. I'm giving it 4 stars because although the food was amazing, space was tight and we felt were a bit too close to our neighbors :) other than that the meal was soooooo good!
Came from brunchThe MOST accommodating restaurant around. From a small party transforming to slightly larger from inside seats to outside, we felt totally taken care of. The food was delicious! We ate and drank most of the menu so cannot complain about anything and recommend everything! The egg sandwich was really delicious as were the egg dishes and they even added a poached egg to our schnitzel per our request. Can't wait to return!Note: the music can be a bit loud but also only happens for intervals so a nice ambience booster!
Beautiful restaurant with great food (the burger is excellent) and all of the staff is lovely. One of my favorite restaurants! Highly recommend and there is a great happy hour menu.
Very friendly and considerate...great atmospere
Food was very yummie but the ambiente for brunch is not the nicest (very dark inside). If you sit a the entrance is super cute.
Great atmosphere. Tasty food.
Love the atmosphere and food was delicious
